The Surfer S1 is the previous generation of Aiper's solar skimmer and the cheapest way into always-on surface cleaning. It does the important part — catching leaves while they still float — for meaningfully less than the current EcoSurfer S2.
Catch it before it sinks
A leaf on the surface is a two-second problem. The same leaf on the floor has started staining the plaster and consuming chlorine. A solar skimmer works the whole time the sun is up, which is the entire argument for owning one alongside a vacuum.
Brushless motor
Brushless means no wearing contacts, less noise and better efficiency per watt of solar input. On a device meant to run unattended all summer, that's the right specification.
Emptying it
The top-slide design pops the basket up so you can lift it out one-handed from the poolside. No flipping the unit over.
Surfer S1 or EcoSurfer S2?
The S2 adds finer 150-micron filtration, an adjustable chlorine dispenser and an edge-and-corner mode. If those don't matter to you, the S1 does the core job for less.
